Elgon Youth Brass Band is a Community based organization located  in Mbale District, Eastern Uganda, the project started in 2009 as a result of the appalling poverty situation in the community that had led to a rise in crime rates, street children, early pregnancies and early marriages leave alone dropping out of school by many children and youth. Lack of employment, death or separation of parents, lack of school fees and other scholastic materials, drug and forms of child abuse have been responsible for the increased number of unemployed and street children.
Founders of the organization discovered that providing the affected and vulnerable children and youth with a means of survival and keeping them busy can help in reducing the impact of this situation on the community.
Members decided to form the organization as a means of reaching vulnerable youth and children who would in turn support the community and the society at large. The organization has recruited beneficiaries aged 5-25 from the community and surrounding communities but mainly children living on streets. The primary beneficiaries are expected to help themselves and later their siblings and the community.
In the short time of its existence, the organization has impressed the community as the children who have benefited from its programmes have been seen as useful to the community.    The project has a Brass Band department and a dance troupe department. Both departments entertain the community and empower the marginalized youth and children of the community. The aim is to give vulnerable children the chance to learn skills that would offer them a route out of poverty, lifting them off the streets and away from the risks of drug culture, violence and crime.
The proceeds from individual and group efforts will be used for meeting scholastic costs, meeting personal and basic family needs and saving for the future.
From the beginning of the organization the children have been performing in the community at functions like weddings, public functions like independence days, political rallies and charity moves. The community has been so supportive and always invite the children to perform.
Elgon Youth Brass Band came up in existence with 45 beneficiaries sharing 25 old musical instruments. As time went on other needy youth and children were identified after showing their interest in the band. Currently the project has a total of 100 beneficiaries aged 9-25 years most of whom are former street children with some orphans and children coming from disadvantaged families in the neighboring slums.
Given the ever increasing numbers of street children and other disadvantaged children, Management of Elgon Youth Brass Band is seeking for ways of supporting children holistically with the hope that those being supported will in turn support others who fall in their category.

Project background
Elgon Youth Brass Band is a Community based organization located in Mbale District, Eastern Uganda. It was established  as  a result of the appalling poverty situation in the district more so among the youth and young children that had had led to a rise in crime rates, street children, early pregnancies and early marriages leave alone dropping out of school by many children and youththat the Elgon Youth Brass Band was established which has plans for setting up systems that can promote easy access by vulnerable and disadvantaged children to skills like in; Music, Dance, Drama, Tailoring,Hair dressing, Catering as they are easy to learn as well as easy to use in earning a living and thus in the long run changing their welfare. The organization has tried to avail the children with music, dance and drama skills building opportunities but the resources available are not enough for putting in place the desirable equipments moreover when they are got they can pay highly.Elgon youth brass band standard facilities that can enhance quality learning so as to make the children more competitive on the market. This has called for drives such as organizing music performances, soliciting funds from donor and local community.
Currently the organization is seeking for funding in order to help make life meaningful to the disadvantaged youth and children in the community, we would like the world to know about the plight of vulnerable children and youth especially those living on the streets and also mobilize some funds for expansion of the organizations activities for children’s welfare that will also be indirectly benefiting the entire society, when you are in Uganda do not forget to come to Mbale and visit the children at the project and see what they can do and hear their stories. The work of the project involves a lot of funds that the organization can’t provide without outside assistance thus need for well wishers for this noble cause.

Problem Statement
The youth and children being the pillars of the next generation need to be holistically empowered in order to be able to pass on the values, norms and wishes of individual communities. Various attempts have been made by government, NGOs and individuals to see that systems are put in place for the general welfare of children such as provision of free primary and secondary education, vocational training, guidance, counseling and reproductive health programmes. However, less has been done to help those who have failed to go to school due factors at times beyond their control such as failure to have a place where to reside or living under extreme child abuse and poverty. Elgon youth brass band realized that some children needed a few life skills that could act as stepping stones to a brighter future.

Vision
A self sustaining and enterprising young generation.

Mission
Reviving the hopes of disadvantaged children by creating opportunities for them to be skilled, self sufficient and productive.

To promote the welfare of disadvantaged/vulnerable children and their families.

-To reduce the number of street children by 60% by 2015

Special thanks to all our sponsors, friends and well-wishers for the support they give to EYBB in achieving it's Goals.

Elgon Youth Brass Band is a Community Based Organization number 1897 based in Mbale Eastern Uganda, the project started in the year 2009 with a mission to help in lifting the youth out of poverty through music .We started getting support from Musequality a UK registered charity (www.musequality.org) early this year in February 2010.

In this project we perform a number of items as noted below: we have a Brass Band department and a dance troupe department. Both departments entertain the community and empowering the marginalized youth; I formed this organization with a mission of helping the youth left them selves out of poverty through music. Because the people in the community are so interested in the program they invite us on several occasions to perform. Elgon came up in existence with 45 members sharing 25 scrap instruments, all children/youth. As time went on other needy youth got interest in it so the total number now is 87 aged 5-25 years mostly street children, orphans and those coming from disadvantaged families in the neighboring slums. My goal is to try and promote equality in our society.

We perform at functions like, weddings, sports days, government functions, church services among others and the money got when the band and troupe are hired, 70% is given to the children to help them with social needs like buying clothes and school items. Elgon has played three (3) times for his excellence the president of the republic of Uganda Yoweli Kaguta Museven, it was recommended as a project with the best Brass Band and Dance troupe in the whole Eastern Uganda. Our target is to build a sounding future for the coming generation, exploit talents for the up coming Artists, seeking joy for the wounded hearts, pave way for prosperity in he country and above all we emphases the youth and the former street children in Education because it is the main key in Uganda, without it you are not highly recognized for any opportunity to get a job and a bright future. We have encouraged the youth and children who are needy in the way that pick some of them from the streets who are redundant and those who are redundant in the community, we do up lift them from such conditions to give them a better life and they are on streets because some of them are mistreated from their homes while others have lost their parents . As Elgon we do support them by taking those who dropped out of school due to lack of some one to push them forward for farther Education, create for them shelter because most of them are from streets and they lack where to sleep as well as to stay, we try to provide them with food but it is limited, they eat today but not knowing what’s in for them tomorrow, training them reading music and dance but the equipments are few and the number is big because everyone needs to practice and improve on his or her music skill, the equipments are: reading sheets with reading music on it and shelter for practice because where we are, we just rent and we find difficulties in payments as a starting project

At the moment we are having one organization which is funding us with some support towards office rent, teachers salaries for two and food but it’s not enough to do it all just because the number of the needy children/youth increases day by day so this has become a challenge to the project, all in all we appreciate the support EYBB gets from Musequality.
